Policies & FAQ

We believe clear communication creates the best experience for everyone.
Below you’ll find answers to common questions and important policies to help lessons run smoothly and successfully.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lessons are intentionally short (up to 10 minutes) and one-on-one. Short lessons help children stay regulated, focused, and confident while learning important skills.

Lessons are held daily Monday through Thursday. Consistency plays an important role in building confidence and skill retention.

Yes. Parents remain nearby during lessons and are encouraged to stay calm and supportive. Children often take emotional cues from their caregivers, so a relaxed presence helps lessons go smoothly.

Crying can be a normal part of learning something new- especially when the skill is important and the environment is unfamiliar.

In survival swim lessons, we watch closely for the difference between frustration and fear. Your child is never left unsupported or unsafe. Our instructors stay calm, connected, and responsive while guiding them through each skill.

Tears don’t mean a lesson has failed.

They often mean your child is working through something challenging with support.

When children are allowed to experience mild discomfort without being rescued from it, they build confidence, trust, and resilience. Over time, most children move from resistance to pride as the skills begin to click.

If a child ever shows signs of true distress or overwhelm, we slow down, adjust, or pause- because emotional safety matters just as much as physical safety.

Our goal is not to push children past their limits.

It’s to help them discover what they’re capable of- safely, respectfully, and at their own pace.

Clothed practice helps children learn how their bodies move in real-world situations, not just in swimsuits. Clothing adds resistance and realism, supporting safer skill development.

In survival swim, learning happens when children are gently guided through challenge—not removed from it at the first sign of resistance.

Stopping too early can reinforce fear or avoidance. Staying calm and consistent teaches children that they are capable and safe, even when something feels hard.

Our instructors carefully support children through moments of resistance while maintaining a steady, reassuring presence. If a child becomes truly overwhelmed, we always adjust the lesson to meet them where they are.

There is no perfect age for survival swim. Readiness is about support, not compliance.

Many young children begin lessons before they can fully understand instructions—and that’s okay. Survival skills are learned through repetition, trust, and gentle guidance.

Our approach meets children exactly where they are developmentally while still holding clear, age-appropriate expectations. Over time, children gain not only life-saving skills, but confidence and independence in the water.

Attendance & Timeliness

Lessons are short and one-on-one, so arriving on time is important to ensure your child receives their full lesson.

If you arrive 4 minutes or more late, the lesson will be forfeited. This policy allows lessons to stay on schedule and consistent for all families. If you notive you are running behind, please text Chloe ASAP so she can guide you.

Cancellations & Missed Lessons

When proper notice is given, missed lessons may be credited according to availability.

Please provide at least 24 hours notice for planned absences.

For illness or unexpected emergencies, please notify us at least 3 hours before your scheduled lesson when possible.

Pool Use & Play Pool Policy

To maintain focus and safety:

  • Swimming in the play pool is not permitted immediately before or after lessons
  • For lessons between 9:00 AM–4:00 PM, families may pay the facility’s daily fee to use the play pool outside of lesson time
  • At all other times, the play pool is off-limits, including for siblings and friends

Thank you for helping us keep the lesson environment calm and consistent.

Weather & Pool Closures

Safety always comes first.

If lessons are canceled due to weather or pool closure:

  • Families will be notified as soon as possible by text from Chloe
  • Updates are shared via the @hubbardsurvivalswim Instagram story

Please avoid texting during lesson hours to ask about weather, as instructors are actively teaching and unable to respond immediately.

Payments

Weekly tuition is due at the facility and paid directly to the cashier.

Accepted payment methods:

  • Credit card
  • Cash
  • Check

To help lessons run smoothly, we recommend allowing extra time on your first day to create a City of St. Petersburg account and complete required forms.

You may create an account in advance here:

You’re also welcome to stop by the facility before lessons begin to complete setup.

Instructors

Lessons are taught by a team of trained, experienced instructors using our calm, trust-based approach. All lessons are led by Chloe and taught side by side with Madeline and Erin.

Instructor assignments may vary based on schedule and availability. For consistency and program flow, families are not able to request or choose a specific instructor. All lessons are overseen to ensure quality and continuity.
